Moderation is an integral part of assessment best practice. NZQA requires institutions to have robust assessment and moderation processes. For most programmes, pre-assessment, intra-assessment and post-assessment moderation are needed, with an appropriate mix of internal and external input. The mix depends on the type of qualification, level, length, industry contact, and practical considerations such as access to available moderators.
